What to expect on my Tshukudu Safari
If you have been on Safari before, the excitement for your next safari may be tangible, but for many people planning their first safari, it may be overwhelming. Travelers don’t always know what to expect when travelling to distant lands filled with bush and wildlife (almost) as far as the eye can see.
Let us bust a myth for you…. South Africa is a pristine country filled with many friendly and civilized cultures waiting to welcome you to a very safe travelling experience. There are no wild lions roaming the streets with cavemen like characters on Elephant back strolling around.
Tshukudu Game Lodge is located in the Limpopo province and has an abundance of Bushveld to explore. That includes the majestic Drakensberg with its winding Panorama route that will showcase the most spectacular views of dams, rivers, waterfalls and the Lowveld (as we call it.) And besides, Tshukudu will make sure that you travel the (safe) road less travelled to experience wildlife in all its glory.
How do you get here? Most foreign travelers will fly in to OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg, and then hop on a shuttle that will bring them to the lodge. Others may choose to fly into Hoedspruit Airport (Eastgate) directly, which makes the drive that much shorter. Either way, there are many self-drive options available, or we are very easy to locate, especially if you have a GPS system.
Tshukudu Game Lodge is located very close to Hoedspruit, a small agricultural & tourism town filled with shops and small businesses. So whatever you forgot at home, you will be able to get here.
Once you arrive at the lodge, one of our friendly staff will check you in and show you to your accommodation unit. The Lodge has a security fence which affords you unobstructed views of the bush & animals, while keeping you safe from curious wildlife. Here you can stroll around the grounds to explore the flora and birdlife, or laze next to the crystal clear pool while enjoying a refreshing drink.
From 6:00am to 8:00am we offer a morning safari which is usually the best time to spot animals. Then it is time to indulge in a hearty breakfast to build up your strength for the rest of the day. There is an optional safari from 9:00am to 11:00am for those that slept in or would like to continue to explore the reserve. The qualified guides will share tales and tidbits about fauna & flora, making it a highly entertaining as well as educating experience.
From then you are welcome to enjoy your free time, or maybe take advantage of activities hosted in the surrounding area. 12:30pm is lunch time where you will continue your culinary journey, sampling delicious, traditional dishes. Late afternoon you will have another chance to keep exploring, with a sunset Game Drive. Dinner is served at 19:00pm, and then the evening is yours to enjoy the magnificent starry sky and surreal sounds of the bush.
Lather, rinse, repeat…as they would say. This is pretty much the life of a traveler when visiting Tshukudu Game Lodge. The ultimate rest & relaxation getaway, but with excellent food, staff at your beck and call and awe-inspiring surroundings.
And yes Millennials, we have Wi-Fi to keep you connected to your posse back in their boring homes. So lots of chances for you to send them photos of your experience and coax their jealousy.
If this doesn’t get you excited, we don’t know what will. The only thing left to do is pick your date and make your booking. We hope the next song on your playlist is: “Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today, I want to be a part of it….” And then you scream Tshukudu Game Lodge at the top of your voice instead of New York :)
