May 2019 Newsletter

The past month has been a terribly sad one for Tshukudu. Our beloved Ntombi was killed by hyenas who crossed over from a neighbouring reserve. We were overwhelmed by the wonderful messages, photos and videos sent by our guests to honour Ntombi. So many were fortunate to have incredibly special experiences with her and these memories will be treasured forever. Thank you all for the outpouring of love!

Winter is definitely here. Days are shorter and morning and evening games drives are a little chilly. The bush is still beautiful, though, and we’ve had some magical sunrises and sunsets this month.

Floppy and Hunter are missing their sister and taking comfort in each other. They’ve been keeping Ntombi’s legacy alive on game walks and seem relaxed and somehow reassured by their interactions with guests.

We had some fantastic sightings in May of leopard, rhino, elephant, zebra, giraffe and nyala to name a few. Game drives are always special at Tshukudu. Just being in nature restores the spirit and creates a feeling of calmness and peace.

The lion cubs are thriving and on one of our game drives guests watched them tucking into a zebra meal.

Other guests were lucky enough to observe the darting of a 3 ½ year-old lion who needed to have a new collar fitted.

Here are some more highlights from the month of May...
