From the Bush Camp
As Ian passed away a year ago we all had to adapt to running the camp without his wonderful presence.
Fortunately all the staff have been stepping up to the task and continued to do their utmost to make our guests feel comfortableand ensure they have an unforgettable experience at Tshukudu Bush Camp.
Fun at the Tented Camp
At the Tented Camp Chris and I have had a wonderful year, despite the unfortunate accident in April 2010 which claimed the livesof Ala & Ian.
We have had many new additions to our little family throughout the year. The Bushbabies are still living in the bathroom above the geyser and have had many little ones. It’s always a joy to find a new “Pookie” looking down at you with head turned upside down in utter amazement at these HUGE creatures that share their home.On 25 October 2010 Chris became a Grandfather with the birth of Alicia Alina Sussens –I am sure Babcia would have been thrilled!!Tommy, the African Wildcat was born in November 2010 and became a permanent fixture of the household in December 2010.
Going Strong...
The loss of Aunty Ala and Ian Sussens was a big shock for the whole world that knew anything about conservation. It makes you realise yet once again that life is too short. It’s amazing to see their values and ideas still wondering around in Tshukudu. So far this year there have been a few new things happening at Tshukudu. To start with we got a new two year old hippo from Switzerland and he is now successfully accepted by our other hippo family on the property.
The Newbie
Tshukudu is not just another African name for a Rhino, in my opinion it is a way of life-something like hakuna matata. After being employed at Tshukudu Game Lodge in November 2010 I never imagined that I (a real city girl) could become a real bundu-bashing-bush baby! Here at Tshukudu we are like family which I believe is portrayed to our guests and sets a warm and pleasant atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. We pride ourselves by not only providing accommodation but ensuring our guests have a truly memorable and unique experience.
Sights and Sounds
From the ranger’s side of things once again, just like every year in the history of Tshukudu this one has been full of fun, excitement and surprises. Savannah's cubs Ntombie, Hunters, Tequila and Floppy have definitely been the highlight of the farm this year, with them officially growing into big kitties and making everyone so proud especially those closest to them, the Tshukudu rangers.
